Chit Chat

June 2006

In the early hours of June 23, Kyobi Halawa (Golden Ecstacy x Mtn Shais Cameo) was born. Hallie, as she will be called is a sweet, very feminine chestnut filly with laid back shoulders, strong hindquarters, and long, long legs. Her eyes are wide apart with a slender nose. She seems to have captured the best of both parents. Hallie has been eating and sleeping since birth and her shape seems to be changing already. I believe that she is determined to grow into her legs as soon as possible. Photos of Hallie will be on the website in a couple of weeks. I am now ready to catch up on my sleep.

May

May has been a wonderful month for us. Kyobi Rihma, owned by Dahabi Arabians, had a beautiful elegant filly, Dahabi Rahmah, a result of careful selective breeding. Rahmah decided to arrive much earlier than expected but Shannon was prepared for her. Mother and daughter are doing fine. Congratulations, Dahabi Arabians!!! At home, I am watching Simmi who is in her last month of pregnancy and I anxiously wait for its arrival.

March

This winter has been bittersweet for us. We lost a dear friend before the holidays and Mtn Shais Cameo is doing well in her pregnant state. Plans that have already been made for this year are in their beginning stages now. Winter made its last hurrah (hopefully) by giving us a winter storm last week. Spring is showing itself in this area with warmer temperatures and with newborn calves, lambs, and foals on the ground. Kyobi will have to wait for a few months before Mtn Shais Cameo is due with her foal. Now is the time to get out the shedding blade and the brushes and a lot of elbow grease. I will be eating horsehair for the next several weeks while I am grooming my beautiful hairy Arabians. Then, voila, they will be sleek and shiny as they graze and play in the pastures.

September

Although it is nearly the end of summer and fall is just around the corner, I still have a long list of tasks to finish before winter arrives. Plans for a Spring 2006 Clinic will be discussed this month by several Arabian breeders. I received an email which greatly interests me and I would like to share a portion of this letter with Straight Egyptian and Egyptian-related breeders. “-----, we have decided to form a club for owners, breeders and enthusiasts of Straight Egyptian and Egyptian related Sport Horses. I shall attend the Sport Horse Nationals in Lexington Virginia where I plan to meet with other like-minded Straight Egyptian Sport Horse owners. We would like to come up with an agenda that will increase the visibility of our Straight Egyptians as horses that are eminently suited for these disciplines.” This letter was written by Beverly Sziraky, Manager of Imperial Egyptian Stud. Please contact Beverly at Bevsziraky@aol.com if you are interested in becoming a part of this group and ask to be put on her mailing list.

August

It doesn’t seem possible but it is nearly September and there is so much work yet to do here. A news flash! Kyobi Arabians will begin emailing a quarterly e-newsletter to Arabian breeders within the next few weeks. Readers comments are always welcome.

July

Congratulations to Dahabi Arabians for purchasing Kyobi Rihma this month. Rihma is also in foal to Dahabi’s senior stallion Golden Ectasy. Foals are expected to be arriving at Kyobi Arabians next year too. It will be good to see them running in the pastures with their tails up in the air like young fawns. Kyobi Qatama will begin training for dressage, sporthorse - in -hand, and halter this summer. Kyobi Colleen will also be trained under saddle for pleasure riding. I expect her to be as sweet and calm as her dam, Kyobi Mone.

June

This has been another busy month. In addition to the daily grooming between the rain storms in preparation for the photo shoot last week, we were trying to get our spring work done. The photo shoot last week had perfect weather and I had wonderful assistance with handling and grooming the horses. Of course, Qatama rolled immediately after her photo session and looked like a gray dust ball. Thanks to Developing Wings Inc., Son Meadows Equine Production, and Tim Kerner, we now have additional photos for the website and DVDs and VHS videos of the sale horses are now available. We have been having some sunny days since the photo shoot so it is so much easier to work outside with the horses. Please drop by often because we are continually adding pages and photos to the website. If you have any questions, please go to the Contact Page and email your questions to me.

May

This month has been eventful for Kyobi Arabians. Kyobi Rihma is leased to Son Meadows Ranch to be used as an outcross to their intensely bred Crabbet herd. Shannon Anderson of Son Meadows is a very selective breeder so it was an honor when she asked to lease Rihma. This website, although still under construction, now has more information and photos available for you to view. Additional photos will be taken as soon as it stops raining long enough for Developing Wings, Inc. or for me to get outside to take photos. In the meantime, I have been grooming, grooming, grooming to get the last patches of winter hair removed. Many thanks to Roxane Rinard of Developing Wings for providing many of the photos that you see on this site. This month has also been a month of planning for the rest of the year. This has been a busy month. I will chit chat with you again next month.
